Memo 67b

How to Escape when Tied Up

1. When the kidnapper, burglar or intruder(s) begin binding you, take a deep breath and expand your body as much as possible:

A) Take deep breaths, puff out your chest and pull your shoulders back.

B) Flex your arms against the bonds as you are being tied, and brace your knees and toes together.

C) Push against the bonds as much as possible while you are being tied.

2. When your captors leave you alone, suck in your chest and stomach.

Wiggle free with the extra room you have given yourself. Do a good job; remember: You are probably being tape-recorded on a security camera.

NOTE: If you do not read these instructions until after you have been tied up, they will probably not work.

Hands & Wrist Bonds

Push and/or flex against the ropes or other restraints as your captors are binding you and keep your wrists far apart, if possible. This may not be effective if your captor knows enough to cinch the rope.

NOTE: This method will not work with handcuffs or cable-ties.

2. Use any pointed object that protrudes (i.e., a spike or hook ) to work the bonds loose – You also may be able to work the bonds free by using your teeth by biting and pulling at the knots… unless you have also been gagged. (See Memo 67g)

NOTE: If you do not have a spike or hook handy, this will probably not work.
